Decent cloud backup

I signed up for IDrive Personal a few months ago, got the 5TB plan. The initial setup was mostly easy, but I had a bit of trouble finding the option to exclude certain file types from the backup. It's there, just not as prominent as I expected. Performance has been decent, files upload steadily in the background without hogging my internet. Restoring a few documents was quick enough. Customer service was helpful when I asked about the file exclusion settings. For the price, it's a good value, though the interface could be a touch more intuitive in places.

Good for my files

I set up IDrive Personal for 5TB back in November. The setup wizard was pretty straightforward, even for a non-tech person like me. It took about an hour to get everything configured on my main PC. Initial backup of about 800GB finished overnight. I liked the versioning feature; it saved me when I accidentally overwrote a document last week. Support was quick to reply when I had a question about restoring an older version, got an email back within a few hours. The Mac client works just as well as the Windows one, which is a plus since I use both. Overall, it's a solid service for keeping my stuff safe.

Consistent service

This is my third year with IDrive. I always go for the IDrive Personal plan, usually the 10TB. It's been consistently reliable. I never had any issues with backups failing, and restores are always smooth. They keep things simple, which is what I need.

Thinking about IDrive vs Backblaze. Anyone have experience with both and can tell me the pros and cons?

A Aaron Hernandez 3 weeks ago
I tried both. IDrive gives you more control over what you backup and multiple devices. Backblaze is more 'set it and forget it' for one machine. Depends on your needs.

Backblaze is simpler, but IDrive has way more features and supports servers and stuff if you ever need that. For just personal backup, both are good, but IDrive usually has those huge first-year deals.

What's the deal with their renewal pricing? Is it going to jump massively after the first year discount?

O Olivia Harris 2 weeks ago
It does go up to the standard rate, yeah. The first year is usually a crazy good deal, but don't expect that price forever.

My renewal was definitely higher, but still competitive for the storage amount. Sometimes they offer small retention deals, but don't count on it.

Anyone know how secure IDrive is? Like, privacy-wise and keeping my data safe from prying eyes?

A Amanda R. 3 weeks ago
They use pretty strong encryption, end-to-end stuff. I feel pretty good about it compared to some others.

J Jacob Parker 3 weeks ago
Yeah, I think they mention HIPAA compliance and stuff, so they're serious about security. You can even set your own private encryption key if you want.

Thinking of switching from Google Drive. Is IDrive any good for just photo storage? I have a ton of pics.

N Nancy Moore 3 weeks ago
Totally, I use it just for my photo library mostly. Works fine, no complaints.

K Kyle Taylor 3 weeks ago
You can definitely use it for photos. They even have a specific photos product called IDrive Photos, but the regular backup works too.

Can I actually back up multiple computers under one IDrive Personal account? Or do I need a separate plan for each?

H Hannah P. 2 weeks ago
Yep, that's one of their main selling points. You can totally do multiple devices on a single personal account.

I have my desktop, laptop, and phone all on my one personal account. It's super convenient.
